I have a litmus test that band members should take to tell if there band name is stupid.  It involves an average passerby on the street.

Passerby: So, what do you do?
Band Member: I'm in a band.
 Passerby: Oh yeh? What band?
 Band Member: Uncle Syrup

If the band member leaves the conversation feeling embarassed, the band name is stupid.

Going from my experience with the Grog and Tankard it's not only the band names that are shite.

The last time I was there - a few weeks ago - I had a great time.  Many of those bands are made up of local musicians who are jamming with friends and aren't even "real" bands...thus some of the crazy names.  It's become more of a local music "incubator".  Hanging out at the the G&T is like mining for diamonds...you got to dig a lot of dirt to finds the gems...and for some of us, it's still fun to dig in the dirt...For those of you who like your music Grade-A, certified, hipster-forum approved and radio ready:  avoid the G&T.  My major complaint:  Six dollars for an Amstel?  Robbery!
