one persons' viewpoint:
hypocrisy alert: has anyone else smelled a little hypocrisy in the grammies banning janet jackson from the show, and in the superbowl's righteous condemnation and horror at janet's bare breast? ok, here's my thinking: the ads on the superbowl show a horse igniting a monstrous fart right in a woman's face. there are several ads that involve some sort of attack on a guy's balls. every kind of sexual innuendo is presented including the smarmy imagery of a football going through a tire to suggest intercourse -- [the most subtle metaphor since the newport cigarette ad where the guy in a ski mask forces a hose shooting foamy water into a laughing woman's mouth.] the grammies themselves will celebrate video after video of mimed fornication, songs about smoking crack in the back of limos with hookers, etc etc etc.
and yet, in the midst of this atmosphere of complete and unrelenting media whoredom, sponsored and endorsed by multimedia corporations who support anything that sells, janet jackson is the evil seductress who dared show one breast. justin timberlake has completely pussied out, of course.... i guess ex-mousketeeers are happy to snag black hip hop culture to help establish post-boy band street cred. but once it gets a little too hot, he turns back into the poster-boy for decency.
