I'd say Young Criminals' Starvation League (the album with the Smiths' cover) or reaching back further, Bare Jr's Boo-tay (though he typically never plays anything off that one live anymore). Third favorite is the newest album.

Bobby Bare Jr likes Dr. Dog. He was singing along giddily a couple of years ago watching them as they opened for him at Iota. Any my wife liked them quite a bit. Me, not so much, though I didn't think they were completely horrible.

Thanks, I will check out the Young Criminals album, I actually already have the first 2 bare jr. album, but they dont really sound like the material he performed last week.

i like dr. dog ... i thought they put on a really fun show at dc9 opening for architecture in helsinki a while back, and i like the late 60s vibe they have going on ... their first album is solid, have the new one but haven't listened to it yet, thanks for reminding me

but yeah, everyone else here hates them

Bad timing for me, can't go to a show around that time.  :)

Playing of Bare Jr. songs seems sort of rare in his setlist these days. One time my wife left a message on his cellphone asking for him to play "Patty McBride"...unfortunately we left early, but a friend who stayed for the whole show said he did indeed play it and mentioned that it was by request.

Bobby seems to have a different crew of people playing with him every time I've seen him. And someone once noted that he seems to play better as a warmup act as opposed to a headliner...like he's trying to show up the headliner.
