Watering Hole Suggestions?
« on: June 09, 2004, 10:24:00 am »
since i am notorious for getting in a rut when it comes to bars, i was wondering if any of you lovely folks would have any recommendations for me. i am especially interested in somewhere with drinks that don't cost $10 each, somewhere i will be able to hear myself think on a weekend, and that has a decent atmosphere. your suggestions are oh so greatly appreciated.

I've always enjoyed Cosmo on the weekends.  It's right above Chief Ike's and far better IMHO.  It's not too quiet but you won't be dealing with mega crowds.  It's divey, if that's your thing.

If you're looking for drinks for under $10, you might want to ride your bike into the burbs.

We ate out in the burbs last night, and our cute young waitress was actually sweet and very polite. Big change from the snotty DC servers.

my favorites?

Helix - especially during 1/2 price beer happy hour, but they always have PBR cans cheap.
 Velvet - Schlitz cans
Raven - Everything is cheap, but for a reason.
Bedrock Billiards - Great juke box, good beer specials.
Fox - Duh!  Get drunk for $8!  And good juke box.
And then there's the usual... Red Room, Dan's, etc.

Ah, that's good to know.  Is it one of those nice places?  It looks that way on the outside.

those are always quite amusing.  people sit on them not knowing they're about to light up and then freak out.  but they don't get up and move right away.  they sort of sit there and discuss their discomfort for a minute or two and eventually come to the conclusion that they want to move.  it's pretty funny.  one night we saw 4 tables of people do that-- sit down, giggle, discuss, move three minutes later.
