At least once a day I can count on a laugh out loud moment from this board.  This was today's.

I have known a few rednecky-type whites who were indeed prejudiced.  But fortunately their numbers & these attitudes seem to have diminished over the passage of decades.  
 
 I have also encountered a bit of black racism directed my way.  Nothing as overt as  violence...but real nonetheless.   And my personal experience is that this is a growing phenomenon, rather than a diminishing one.  
 
 BTW, I currently work for a black owned business.  And I have walked alone in black Baltimore without problems...though I've a touch of paranoia at being the token white at those times.  Maybe that's how blacks can feel in largely white America..?  
 
 I do know how it feels to be a persecuted foreigner, because that has happened to me.

seriously though I wonder if Xavier would have thought to call attention to a gay pride march or one of the Diwali parties that'll be happenning iin the area soon in the same way he joked about the Black Luv thing. That's sort of fucked up.

 i used to live in the heart of el salvador country in adams morgan and my female friends/roomate would be harrassed all the time, but i bet if they were walking around an upper class neighborhood in san salvador they wouldn't have the same problems

 regarding bigotry in general (not just race-related):
 
 i like to think that we're the first generation in the history of mankind to grow up under the social assumption that bigotry is just morally wrong ... i mean, sure, there are still plenty of flat-out bigots, but they know that society as a whole doesn't accept their views as "correct" ... ours is the first generation in the entire history of mankind to have that "enlightened" base of social mores
 
 that said, i would venture to say that the vast majority of people still view those "different" from them (whether it be sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, whatever) with subconcious or (less often now) blatant prejudice
 
 so while i walk around with that first thought all the time, i'm constantly reminded that even though it isn't "socially acceptable" to be a bigot, we still a long way to go

I saw the posters for luvfest up on the Mall during my lunchtime run. I was not aware of any of the other events you mention. It's sort of fucked up that you would read any more into it than that and make that comment, rather than actually asking me.

 But seriously...I go to a NASCAR race once a year, so I don't really have that much contact with the white working class folks, unlike where I grew up.  So I'm not in contact with the white working class as much as others...
 
 But my point was that you can't prove a theorem using your own isolated examples. I can't prove that Black people are more poorly behaved than other races just based on my own personal experiences. Nor can I PROVE it's a class thing. Nor can Sacriforce use his personal examples to PROVE some kind of systemic institutional practice of racism.
