Gotta be Telephono, with Girls Can Tell just behind...

"soft effects" EP is far and away the best spoon, one of the great '90s indie rock EPs along with "archers of loaf vs. the greatest of all time" and "watery, domestic." every moment is perfect, especially "waiting for the kid to come out" and "loss leaders."

as far as full lengths, i always have been and always will be a "series of sneaks" man. the first 7 songs on there just can't be fucked with. the "woo!" after "from here until empire staaaate" on "car radio" is one of my favorite moments in any song ever. that one, "30 gallon tank," "guest list/execution," "metal detektor" ... my god those are amazing songs. there's a jagged aggressiveness that isn't there on the merge stuff.

i enjoy "telephono" and "gimme fiction" about equally, in very different ways. "telephono" has more of my favorite songs, but "gimme fiction" works better as an album, but y'know, sometimes that's overrated. "girls can tell" and "kill the moonlight" are a bit overrated, i think.

telephono. while not bad, i find that spoon's post-'90s output is overrated.

Telephono is solid, but the weakest of their LPs.

When picking a favorite, I go back and forth between A Series of Sneaks and Girls Can Tell.

Kill the Moonlight and Gimme Fiction are both excellent as well, though.
