Anyone else going to the Black Cat tonight for a great triple bill: Rogue Wave, Fruit Bats, and Chad VanGaalen?

I thought I'd go to this, but I'm exhausted from a long weekend, have another ahead and work is kicking my ass.  Can't do it, but I'm sure it'd be an interesting show...

Very good show.  I have been waiting a few years to see the Fruit Bats.

I spoke briefly with Eric Johnson, lead singer of the Fruit Bats.  He seemed really excited to play the 9:30 Club next month...he was also pretty fired up because he has heard that 9:30 has a bed back stage.

Quote that summed up the crowd:

I went to see Chad VanGaalen and FruitBats. Didn't stick around long enough for Rogue Waves.

I liked Chad VanGaalen's songwriting but the band just didn't sound good. Maybe it's the limited acoustics of the Backstage - who knows?

Fruit Bats were similar - great vocals and songwriting but the sound was off. They mentioned that one of their members was having technical trouble so they didn't have any keyboards, which could explain alot.

Overall, I'd love to see these bands again in a more 'proper' environment. I mean, for gawds sake, the bar wasn't even open in the Backstage. How can you have a rock show without an open bar????  :)

I thought it was a really good show. But like xcanuck said, the sound on the Backstage isn't all that great. And it is a pain having to go out to the Red Room to get a drink.

Looking forward to the new Rogue Wave. They played a few new songs, and some nice full band versions of older songs.
