Album Report Time
« on: July 11, 2005, 03:08:00 pm »
Anybody heard the new Son Volt?  How is it? Preferably would like to hear from people who have actually listened to the album.

Same with new Pernice Brothers album, how does it compare with the last?

 Thanks.

The new Pernice is growing on me. Not that impressed after the first couple listens, but I found myself humming the songs for days afterwards. I'd rank it above YM&O, below TWWE and OBH.

I've only heard a handful of tracks off of each. The Son Volt seems a bit heavier and maybe more mainstream than recent Farrar output. Not being a big SV fan, I'm probably not the best person to comment.

I listened to the new songs on the Pernice Brothers website, and wasn't inspired to but it.

I picked up the new album from Tom Brosseau at CD Cellar yesterday. I'm liking it. Jeff Buckley without the overdone histrionics.

And Robbie Fulks continues to be my #1 album of 2005.

Anyone else heard the new BRMC?

It's verrry different.  A lot of acoustic guitar.

On first listen, I like it.  I'm not sure that everyone will.

I really like the new son volt....there are some great songs scattered in the first half, the second slows down a tad, but its very good

the brmc...it takes awhile getting used to it, but it grows on me each time...I love the title track howl, and its not a great comparison but the disc sounds like something 16 horsepower might have tried if the had pretensions of being mainstream (its not a great comparision, but...)
