safe journey, my brother
« on: July 13, 2005, 04:13:00 am »
one of the great ones has left us. keith alexander, member of several bands (carnivore, dee snider's smf, and primal scream nyc), body modification artist, and all around amazing man, was killed in a bicycling accident in brooklyn last night.

this world is a better place because of the time keith spent here, and i am a better person because of the time i spent with him.  i am lucky enough to call him my friend, and honored that he would say the same of me.  this has been a day filled with the sadness of grief and the joy of remembrance.  may he rest in peace.

Sorry to hear about that.  Either they are getting brought to the surface more or there seems to be a lot of recent deaths of bicyclists.

 Was this a traffic accident?

Helmets don't look cool to some, but it can be a life saver. I wear one 95% of the time but do admit to heading out for the short trip to the store w/o one at times for the simple fact that the breeze feels good.

 Stay safe out there.

details still unclear, but apparently he was on a hike/bike path, attempted to avoid a child swerving back and forth, and went headfirst into some sort of barrier/divider.  helmet: alive and sore.  no helmet: gone.

Two local cyclists have died recently, both as the result of running stop signs.

i almost saw some tourists hit on K street down by the g'town waterfront on sunday ... they weren't paying attention to any of the stop signs, just merrily biking along

sorry to hear this.

i was talking with a friend on sunday night and she basically responded the same way when i told her i biked helmetless ("promise me you'll never bike without one again!").

now seeing this post...perhaps someone's trying to tell me something...

i nearly put myself under about 2 years ago merging onto 14th street from the sidewalk (missed a car whizzing by me like @ 50mph by about 2 feet).

My band played Southpaw in Brooklyn about a month ago and a lovely girl had died a week before while cycling...she was on the right-hand lane..a car parked open the door so she maneuvered to the left (on-coming traffic) was hit straight up by a garbage truck I believe...not that a helmet could've saved her..but still shows a bike ride can be as dangerous a thing as driving..
