Photography at the Club

I recognize that the general photography policy is band-by-band, but I'm curious as to whether or not there's anyway to bring what I was told is "professional" equipment into the club.  I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT, with a decent Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens.  I'm not a professional by any means (I wish!), but I still enjoy taking photos at shows.
 
 So, I guess my questions are this: If a band says no Pro photography, is it possible to speculate that they don't want their photos published?  If so, then why let me bring in my Canon S2/IS, which isn't a slouch of a camera.
 
 Or, would it be possible to bring "professional" equipment in, by any means?  I'd love to make use of the good equipment as often as possible.  Thanks for you input.

if your camera hasa complex name it counts as professional.
 get a smartflash dispossible camera by fujitsu.
 they are fucking professional.
 and get there early and be up front.
 they come out jsut as well as pro pictures.
 actually better then my ex's pro pics...hahah i crushed hers.

Well, getting early would be easy, except that I have two jobs and often don't get off work until 9:00 pm...making even 8:00 doors impossible.

the band sets the policy.  the standard industry definition of "no pro" is interchangeable lenses and/or high megapixel digital cameras, which are usually digital slrs.  we all know that there are high end small digital cameras that can shoot great pics and look like a regular camera, just like we know that there are cameras with interchangeable lenses that suck.  there has to be some sort of line drawn, and that's what we enforce.  it's not a perfect policy, but it works for the most part.
 
 if you want to shoot a show that has a "no pro" policy, you need to contact the band's management, since they are the only ones that can issue photo passes.

Thanks thatguy, I certainly understand the line, and my intention wasn't to criticize the policy...I am just a curious cat with some gear he'd like to use.

 Just how many megapixels step into the 'professional equipment' area? Mine is just right on the border but have never brought it to the 9:30 since I have always assumed that it would never make it past the door for one reason or another.

I was a dirty old man even when I was 19, it just fits better now, I've grown into it.
