It's a shame that INXS can't do what Joy Division did after Ian Curtis died...go back out there, change your band name, break new ground musically, then play some old tunes 22 years later and do a half-decent job at it. It ain't Ian Curtis, but hey, it's all the original members still making music and stuff like "Transmission" still sounds great.

The problem is that INXS (whether you love them or hate them) sits on a healthy stack of songs that fans would probably still love to hear. I think Michael Hutchence is a fuck-up for killing himself, be it an accident or whatever, but the other guys totally have the right to carry on. I saw INXS a few times in the early 90's and they were a solid band, but I can't say that I'd go see them now...I'm just not sure I'd be interested enough and want to pay the money. If they played the 9:30 for $20, I would consider it, just out of curiosity more than anything. That being said, more power to them for wanting to work together and for trying to make it look as though they're giving their fans a bit of a chance to voice who the type of singer should be through the show.

By the way, it makes me laugh to think that Echo and the Bunnymen tried to carry on after Ian left the band. Didn't they have a female lead singer? At that point, carry on but change the band name.

Why not Sir Bob Geldof as lead for both Queen & INXS?

As disrespectful as his offing himself and putting the band into limbo (no pun intended)? [/b]

This topic begs the question, which bands could/should never reunite/reform without the original lead singer. And which bands could pull it off?

 Leave well alone.

 Queen
 Thin Lizzy
 The Smiths
 Cure
 Specials
 Sex Pistols
 The Clash
 Madness

 Could pull it off

 Pogues
Blockheads (no disrespect to the great Ian Dury)
 Stranglers

 to name just a few....

i was actually thinking about this too...

The Stone Roses are at the top of my list.  Seeing as Squire was my fav guitarist at one point, it would be great to hear him backed by that stellar bass/drum combo live.  History has proven that Ian can't sing for shite live anyways.  Besides, Ian has the potential for causing serious problems for the group...

Part of my me would like to hear Marr/Rourke/Joyce do Smiths stuff instrumental, if only because like the Stone Roses the music was a big part of the appeal for me.  Squire actually replaced Marr as my fav guitarist.  Big problem with this idea, is the audience would feel the need to sing along loudly thus ruining it...

The Clash without Strummer probably wouldn't work, but Mick did sing lead on some of great songs.  Maybe a B.A.D./Clash hybrid thing would work and the Mescalaros could open up.

The Jam is a tough call as well, Paul and Bruce with a new drummer could work.

In the end its as much about the songs as it is the lineup... and if the lineup is not doing embarrassing things with the songs it has the potential for a worthy show.

What do ya mean?  Are you ruling out a Whitesnake reunion tour?  Damn, just as I was getting my hopes up.

And as far as his teeth go...just ghastly.  He looks like a shriveled up, coked up, former supermodel.

I know, and remember what Strummer said when asked to be the Pogues frontman permanently??

"No. Shane MacGowan is the pogues"....or words to that effect.

But they are still a great band with or without Shane.
