I'm thinking about skipping the Flogging Molly show just because there's so much other stuff going on the next few weeks...if I do, it will be the first FM show I've skipped in the area in which I've lived since I first saw them in 2000 opening for the Bouncing Souls in Virginia Beach.

EDIT: I forgot I skipped the show with Hot Water Music at the 930 Club because I couldn't get out of my driveway thanks to an ice storm (I lived in Fredericksburg then).  I DID have tickets for that though.

The show last night (Friday) in Philly was one of the better Social D shows I've seen. Of course, for me they are good, great, amazing, or stellar. So last night was in the amazing category. Here's the setlist:

 Road Zombie
 Reach For the Sky
 Highway 101
 Under My Thumb
 Mommy's Little Monster
 Mass Hysteria
 Sick Boy
 Gotta Know the Rules
 Ball and Chain
 Bye Bye Baby
Sometimes I Do (w/Eddie Spaghetti on vocals)
 King of Fools
 Nickles and Dimes
 ----------------
 Prison Bound
 Ring of Fire
 ----------------
 Story of My Life

First off, the Supersuckers are just a great band, especially as openers. "Pretty Fucked Up" is a hilarious song, but those guys have some chops too. So glad I got to see them again.

Social D were all business and the audience was into it, and they weren't as crazy as the Baltimore show. That being said, I'm always impressed by Philly crowds. The band were tight, Mike Ness apologized for having postponed the show for an entire YEAR, but they just ripped through the set. They did "Sometimes I Do" with Eddie Spaghetti from the Supersuckers doing vocals, which was a lot of fun. I wonder when they played that last since I've never seen it live. Ness needed the lyrics in front of him, which I thought was funny. 3 songs in a row from Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell...too bad "Cold Feelings" wasn't in there!

The nice thing was when the show was over people weren't really leaving...it was a fast show at 70 minutes, and the crowd just went insane. After about 5 minutes the band came back for a real encore and the place went apeshit. They closed with "Story Of My Life", which sent everyone onto South Street in a glow. Great night.

The Supersuckers can hold their own  alone in any bar in the world but I agree it's a great pairing with Social D. Sounds like it was a great night to be in Philly.Glad you enjoyed it. Gigs like that can restore one's faith in rock n roll in a few short hours. I thought it fitting after Social D's performance at HFS, Ness commented something along the lines of" If you like us here, you really need to come see us in a bar sometime". Definitely their favorite environment. They can really get the energy flowing.

They played Sometimes I Do at the Allentown gig the night before the HFStival in 2005.  Made the drive up there to the oversold Crocodile Rock totally worth it.
