How about the bartender just do his/her fucking job and serve everyone equally regardless.

For $3.35 an hour? Not on your life, if you like doing things like paying bills.

Okay, let me try to better explain myself.

One of my pet peeves is wait/bar staff who just expect a tip and so give lousy service.

If bar tenders (and wait staff for that matter) actually did their jobs in such a way that they tried to actually earn a good tip by giving good service to every customer, instead of expecting tips so make no effort, they wouldn't have to pick and choose their favourite punters to serve. Having said that I understand that some are just tight-wads, but that goes with the job I'm afraid.

And for the record, I am a good tipper...well I used to be, we don't need to tip in Ireland because bar-staff get paid a living wage.

the black cat bartenders do make some strong tall drinks... love getting smashed there.

 $1 per drink.

i will often hold back on tips til after a few drinks or the whole night and then tip to avoid tipping well to some ass who gave lousy service, usually in a place that's new to me. and god help them if they have a problem with giving me water, no ice! and i want a lime w my G&T! and, yeah, i eat the whole thing, rind and all. want to fight about it? lol. and black cat bartenders are always cool, and yeah good strong drinks, sometimes i wish for a lil [more] "T" in my G&T, but i cant complain.

do you give $11 or leave a $.90 tip?
$11.  If the two zones are long zones, as in it's a 20 minute trip, I'll give $12 or more.  (When I used to cab from Woodley Park to Capital Hill, it's only two zones but a long as hell drive -- I tip more for that, it only made sense).

I know a few folks on here think I'm a lush, but I usually don't drink enough for a tab.  A pet peeve of mine are folks who never have cash so put everything, even $7 lunches, on their friggin' cards.  Or worse, you go to dinner with 6 people and five throw cards in.  Hello, you knew you were going to dinner, couldn't you get some cash on the way over??

Actually, that's a good question for folks on here who are or have been servers.  This new allowance for multiple credit cards -- is it a huge pain, or really acceptable?

I put everything on my credit card, even $7 lunches, for one simple reason. Bonus miles. I've been able to take four free domestic round trip flight in the past four years (and have a fifth alreay earned), mainly because I use my credit card. What is the point of cash?

I'm guilty of this, except I use a debit card.  My most recent achievement was putting a .97 bagel on my debit card.

the five credit cards at dinner is annoying, but a card for $7 lunches and the like is better I think, no time wasted making change, better yet, i dont have to carry around all that damn change, I bet a lot of places where its one person paying at a time prefer cards

I agree...the real peeve is the five credit cards issue.  It's usually the same people though, as they've gotten use to the no cash wallet scenario.
