Pitchfork's review of Audioslave's new CD

 This is pretty hilarious but I have to say, it's yet another example of Pitchfork's reviews telling you virtually nothing about the album. Shocked they gave Audioslave a 6.8 especially when the entire review was mocking their lyrics.
 
 Anyway, what do people think about the review, Pitchfork in general, Audioslave and their suckitude, etc, etc?

I rarely go to the Pitchfork site, but I've heard the latest Audioslave CD.
 
 I wouldn't buy it myself but it's not that bad...

The new site is a pain to navigate, the print is too small and the large number of flashing/moving banner ads are too distracting.
 
 I couldn't even get through the Audioslave review. Not funny.  Not informative.

usually skim pitchdork, but i do come across some awesome stuff there. like the david cross piece last week. the silly number thing is usually totally arbitrary, but i will check into something if it sounds interesting.

I read the review today and had the same thought - exactly how is this a REVIEW of the CD? I'm really frustrated with Pitchfork's reviews. They all seem to be written by pretentious pricks.
 
 I still go to Pitchfork daily but only for the news section (tour dates, releases, etc).
 
 One magazine (sadly not online, though) that I really like for reviews is Under The Radar. I think it's based out of LA but I got a subscription to it.  Lots of good interviews and tons of record reviews. Too bad it's published so infrequently.

 I pretty much don't look at Pitchfork anymore.  Their best feature to me is early news on tours, but I end up getting most of that good information here anyhow...  Overall it can be an annoying 'zine and the reviews are not helpful.  
 
 Online I like Pop Matters and Splendid.

 i do like magnet.  back in the day, i would read magnet and raygun, although i always hated the way the text was layed out in raygun. . .hurt my head to read it.

Magnet is probably my fav - tho I really don't like any review section that doesn't assign some type of grade. So often I read one of their reviews & wonder if they are recommending it or not.
 
 I know ratings can be problematic (consistency, specificity, etc.) but I like some kind of tool/symbol that lets me know what they really think.
 
 Anyone remember way back when Spin used to rate their records with a traffic light?:
 Green = good
 Yellow = caution
 Red = run away as fast as you can
 
 That was perfect for me.
 
 Another mag I've been picking up a lot is Harp. It leans toward the alt-country genre but it's pretty all inclusive. They are relatively new and still writing with some passion about music.
 
 Interestingly they don't rate their record reviews either.

Easy way to fix that...use Mozilla Firefox. It has an ad blocker within the application. I don't see any adverts, they just appear as blank spaces.  
 
 Agree on the Big Takeover -- Jack Rabid is awesome -- and Magnet for magazine recommendations.  
 
 I used to read Pop Matters more frequently, but lately, I haven't enjoyed the writing as much.
