I was at the Black Cat show last night, and it was pretty good. I could not make out a single word the Peels vocalist was singing, but I wasn't there to see them anyway, so I didn't really mind that.
Autolux were much better than I expected, though I think their set was a little shorter than fans would have hoped; though it should be mentioned that a bunch of their songs are 5+ mins long. I was also a little miffed that they didn't play Angry Candy, which was my favorite song off Future Perfect. Nice distortion effects, and done a lot clearer than the Raveonettes.
I love the Raveonettes, so I thought the show was great. I was surprised at the number of people that were really into it. I was in the second row, and people around me were in full motion throughout the set. This girl next to me smacked her head against my shoulder so many times while dancing around, it's actually quite sore now. The set was satisfyingly long, beginning at about midnight and stretching till around 1.20 am, which is something to mention because most of their songs run under 3 minutes. They even managed to fit in a couple of B-sides (Rebel invasion and I wanna be taken). I'm a huge fan of Chain Gang of Love, (I reviewed it on Epinions, under the name aniym) but I was quite disappointed by their new album. Though they did play a number of songs off the new record, they were done very well indeed, turning even the slightly cheesy ones like My Boyfriend's back and Love in a Trashcan into fast, pounding and totally danceable numbers. They played my favorites from CGOL as well as ones from the EP Whip it On, ending the show with the WIP closer, Beat City, which sounded great, except for the noise freakout at the end, which sounded slightly muffled. the problem was probably with the 4 guitarists the band used, making the sound too dense to make out individual feedback streams for jesus and mary chain fans like me. But on the whole, it was an excellent show, and I recommend that you catch whichever of show of theirs you can.
