One of Rouse's songs sounds like a complete Smith's ripoff. The other songs, not so much.

Ritter is a bit more folky than country, I'd say. Rouse is a bit more pop. Ritter is a bit more interesting lyrically, Rouse a bit more interesting musically. Ritter is very popular in Ireland, supposedly, Rouse lives in Spain. Ritter was flown in by Keira Knightly to perform at her 18th birthday party, Rouse has a hot Spanish girlfriend. Ritter seems very easygoing and likeable, Rouse seems like a moody twat. Ritter gets bonus points for being a marathon runner.

So we braved the Birchmere food for this one.

Opener Kyle Andrews was from Nashville by way of Chicago. He performed as if he were a seasoned veteran of the performers loft at your neighborhood Potbellys.

In between acts, our nutty neighbor introduced himself and said that he was on the guest list because he had been the server for the Josh Rouse band at an Old Town restaurant Sunday night. He asked us if we knew who the Josh Rouse band was, and did they have a really hot female lead singer. He seemed crushed when we told him the woman in question was Josh Rouse's girlfriend and she'd only be singing backup on a few songs.

Rouse was solidly good, though unspectacular. He reminds me of a creepy alcoholic midget. Early on, he told a sob story about their van breaking down in Kentucky earlier in the day and thanks to the Birchmere for letting them borrow equipment, blah blah blah. Some people actually believed the story, which of course was complete bullshit. His girlfriend was hot in a 90's teen magazine model sort of way (my wife's observation)...they seemed like a creepy older man/ younger woman combo...but her singing chops are lacking. I wish he would rock a little more, but as my wife pointed out, a 5'4" guy in nerd glasses rocking out would probably look ridiculous. I wonder if the relatively small crowd could be attributed in part to the other yacht rock show in town last night, Norah J. and M. Ward.

Huh. I thought the show was fucking spectacular. I really really enjoy his music though, much more than other things here. And I have a girl crush on both him and his GF so it wasn't a bad night regardless. =] Not sure about the tour bus story though - none at the venue or nearby hotels.

Either way, I really enjoyed it, I'd like to see him back here and play more often. I'll be at his shows for years to come.

he needs to axe the girlfriend during the concert. she did nothing of value to his music.

i thought this show was better than the show last year. we had a good time.

I had to miss it. I haven't seen him live, so I would have like to have checked it out. I dig the smaller crowds as well - at times I wish Birchmere would do the reserved seating like RHT. Always stressful trying to get there during rush hour. Anyhow...good details, but anything more about the music at the show? (How many stars would Arch give?)

Screw the show, Rhett; I want to know if you and The Vessel saw the notorious waitress and her pit bull manager. Details, please.

And what about their world famous food?

I don't think either of us would recognize the server if we saw her again. She was truly unremarkable looking. I did see the douchebag manager, but had no interaction. (I actually didn't interact with him the previous time, the Vessel did all of the interactiing with him.)

But I must give credit where it's due. The Hispanic male server and busboy we had Monday were excellent. I guess the moral of the story is to avoid the snotty white chick servers, and go with the hard working Hispanics.

the 2-3 times I've been there so far it takes us an average of 45 minutes to get a drink and 35 to get it refilled. Shame for them I'm usually an incredibly heavy tipper for drinks (40%).

This time she couldn't even get my 2 drinks correct throughout the entire night. It's not that fucking hard to -not- skip my table the 8 times you went past it the first time.
