My wife thought Sting looked good for an old guy. I thought the performance was mediocre.

I heard today that The Police tried to book M&T Stadium in Baltimore for a show but the stadium officials decided they didn't want them there. From what I could tell, it had nothing to do with the band, per se, but concerts in general.

There's no way in Hell that I would ever consider going to that show but, putting my personal preferences aside, that really sucks for their Baltimore fans. Especially when you consider how many of the area people's tax dollars have paid for that place even though the citizens voted against the thing even being built.       I could understand if it were during football season but the next season is a long way off. On top of it all, it's not like there are really any other arena sized venues in the Greater Baltimore area for them to go to.

This time, we can't blame the band or the promoter for not trying.

But the best date for the group was Aug. 4, the day the Ravens plan to scrimmage the Washington Redskins.
so that means FedEx field will be available!  Not that football stadiums make for great concert venues, but if they insist on it... hey seth...

FedEx field is useless as a concert venue.

and M&T is any better?

actually, i'm wondering if gore's Live Earth thingy might prevent them from playing DC (either contractually or economically).

The Ravens are all for concerts at M&T Bank, since they make money off of them. The thing is Ravens football comes first there. I know this because I use to work there. Hopefully something can be worked out there. Fedex is not a good option, due to working with ??them? is a pain and more trouble then it is worth.

The locals are pissed off about this. Apparently, there is some kind of meeting tomorrow night (I think) in Federal Hill (no idea where) regarding petitioning some big wig about making this happen at M&T.

I'm hoping that even if they can't get The Police gig going, that this makes it very evident to those in power and with the money that Baltimore wants some big concerts too. This could all work out as a plus in the long run regardless of the outcome for this particular show.

Funny thing is, I can't stand arena/stadium shows but as a music lover who is so keenly aware of how often Baltimore is skipped over, I can fully support everyone's efforts in this cause.

I don't even want to begin wondering what Danny Boy would charge to use Fed Ex.

FedEx is just too big.  Its much more of a monstrosity than M&T or any other stadium I've ever been to.  RFK on the other hand used to be a decent venue for huge shows (if you had decent seats).
