From dcrtv:
WARW Goes "Global" & "Green" AAA - 2/2 - DCRTV told you on 1/31 that some changes were coming to CBS's classic rock WARW (94.7 FM). Well, at noon Friday, after a few moments of silence, something new started. "The New 94.7 - The Globe." According to an on-air announcement from CBS Radio's DC suit Michael Hughes, the station is "going green." Using renewable sources of power for its transmitter and the station's hybrid vehicles. "World Class Rock." Classic and alternative artists from the Rolling Stones, U2, the Beatles, Neil Young, and Van Morrison, to the Clash, Green Day, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Elvis Costello, Beck, Nirvana, and the Violent Femmes. Somewhat like the old alternative rock WHFS was in the mid-1980s, according to Hughes's noon statement, which was followed by an audio montage including Al Gore, an opponent of global warming. Trade pub Radio And Records classifies the format as "triple A" - adult album alternative. Classic WHFS veterans Weasel and Cerphe remain onboard. So do Mark Stevens and midday gal Schelby, the wife of recently canned Program Director Max Dugan. It does appear, however, that the morning team of Stevens and Medley has been pitched into the Recycle Bin. Now, can CBS/DC get the WHFS calls back from CBS/Baltimore?
