ETA's and Australia
« on: October 04, 2005, 07:05:00 pm »
I will be visiting Australia next week for two weeks.  I recently acquired an ETA for my visit there.

What has anyone's experience been with this?  I didn't print anything out.  Is this something that gets checked before I leave DC at the airport?  I am used to visas in passports, not floating around online.

You are lucky. Australia is such a wonderful country and you will have an amazing time.

Australian law requires the ETA which you acquired. It is not required to have a print-out of the ETA. I assume you are leaving from Los Angeles, they will have your name on the approved roster. I believe that you can even obtain an ETA at the LAX terminal if all else fails.

 Have a wonderful time!

Thanks for the info.  It seemed too easy.  One minute, no ETA.  The next, ETA.  I will be visiting Adelaide and the surrounding areas.  Have you spent any time in South Australia?

The ETA confused me too but there was no problem at the gate.

I have not been to Adelaide yet. My family lives in Sydney, so I've been there and Melbourne. You are going to fall in love with the country and it's people. Next time I visit, I'd like to see Perth.

I'll be sure to knock back a VB for you!  Apparently Adelaide and Melbourne have a rivalry that Melbourne doesn't know about.

I suppose you could say I've already fallen in love with it's people.  My girlfriend is an Aussie!

The weather's warm there,
 The natives dark and nubile.

hahah.

South Australia probably has beef with everywhere else, not just Melbourne.  rightly so, too: the place is full of Brit-Aussies and they are far too easy to make fun of.  that said... i like Adelaide.  nice local music scene, though not as full-on as Melbourne.  I recall that the zoo is pretty cool too... but I've not been there since year 9.

ETAs are recorded and linked electronically to your passport details.  when you turn up and they scan your passport, the information comes up and they know you're cool.

enjoy OZ, but watch out for drop-bears.

My, but that's a long way to travel just to cut a slice.

...And I always thought that ETA was a Basque separatist group.  Go figure..?

Australia is just like America really.

It would be wonderful if we could only get rid of the locals!    ;)
