Leave it rot and die there, then when the bodily fluids start to seep through the drywall you know two things: 1) it's dead 2) where to cut it out. My parents own a cabin in god's country and this is very common (no not the bodily fluid part). Usually you do nothing. If it found its way in, it usually finds its way out. I also know that animals as small as squirrels can sound like a herd of buffalo... I honestly think it's nothing to worry about. And remember, most animals are pretty lean and composed of next to nothing. Even if it does "pass", chances are it will just dry up and you will not have a clue anything has happened.
