Yankees fan beats up O's fan, cops don't care
« on: August 20, 2007, 01:15:00 pm »
now i dont know. are the cops wrong here? or does this fall under the who really gives a shit category?  and why was this even in the paper?????

  the examiner
O??s fan: Yankees fan assaulted him

BALTIMORE (Map, News) - It was an Orioles game that John Alexander says changed his attitude forever about what used to be his favorite team.

Alexander, 25, of Frederick, and a large group of admittedly ??rowdy? friends set out July 27 to watch his hometown O??s take on the New York Yankees.

But what was supposed to be a fun night out in Baltimore quickly turned into a nightmare, he said.

A Yankees fan ??sucker punched? him with a sharp object outside the ballpark near Sliders Bar & Grill ?? and when Alexander tried to seek help from Baltimore police and first aid workers in the stadium, he was turned away, Alexander and several witnesses said.

He had to walk to the University of Maryland Medical Center, where he received nine stitches for his head injury.

??It really made me angry,? Alexander said. ??I was an Orioles fan since I was a little kid. Now I don??t support the Orioles anymore.?

Rosie Alexander, 23, John??s sister, said she couldn??t believe the attitude of the Baltimore police officer inside the gate at Camden Yards as she watched her brother seek assistance.

??He was gushing blood in the street. But the officer told us he couldn??t do anything, because he was paid by the Orioles and it happened outside the stadium,? she said.

John Alexander acknowledged that he and his friends were drinking at the game and that ushers repeatedly asked them to calm down. Eventually, he and four friends left the game early because ushers ??were getting ready to kick us out,? he said. Alexander also acknowledged that he engaged in a brief pushing match with the Yankees fan who struck him in the head.

Baltimore police spokesman Sterling Clifford said after checking into the situation, he couldn??t confirm any of the details of Alexander??s account.

??I can??t confirm that it even occurred,? he said of the incident.

Generally speaking, Clifford said, police officers are supposed to handle crimes they see occurring outside the stadium, even though the Orioles reimburse police overtime pay for working at the games.

Orioles spokesman Greg Bader confirmed that the team knew of the altercation but that Alexander did not appear to police or first aid workers to be ??extremely injured.? Bader said he didn??t want to comment further because the alleged assault happened in the Sliders lot, not at the stadium.

??You should call Sliders about their security,? he said.

A University of Maryland Medical Center spokeswoman confirmed that doctors treated Alexander in the emergency room at 10 p.m. July 27 after he was ??struck with an unknown object.?

Alexander and his family say the entire experience left them with nasty taste in their mouths.

The Alexanders complained to the Orioles but couldn??t figure out how to navigate the bureaucracy of the Baltimore Police Department to file a formal police complaint, according to Allyson Alexander, John??s mother.

??I can??t believe if you get assaulted on the other side of the gate, the police will do nothing,? she said. ??That??s a terrible message.?

LMAO. Good job.
And if you really want an analysis of why it was in the paper, I can provide that information... although I almost shouldn't need to, because you commented on the very story yourself. It's a dumb story that would garner attention from the public - which it obviously did.

Also, August is a notoriously slow news month.

Fucking Yankees, Reports Nation

BOSTON??Moments after the New York Yankees continued a month-long stretch that has seen them climb from the bottom of the AL East to pull within a once unfathomable four games of the first-place Red Sox by defeating the Baltimore Orioles Monday night, stunned and enraged baseball fans across America took a moment to shake their heads in disbelief and curse dejectedly at the relentless inevitability of Yankee glory...

"Fucking Yankees," said Marshfield, MA resident and longtime Red Sox fan Lawrence Broberg, echoing the sentiments of thousands of men and woman across the nation. "Every year. Every goddamn year...."

I doubt a Yankee sucker punched an Oriole fan, if it was anything like when the Red Sox came to town, then there probably wasnt any Oriole fans at the game.

Fuck him, if he was able to walk to a cop to ask for help then the Yankees fan didn't give him a good enough beating for being an asshole.

I gave a Flyers fan a good arse-kicking outside the MCI Centre after a Caps v Sens playoff game a few years ago. I know it was wrong but it felt oh so good. Strange thing is though, I got a cheer from those around me and the DC cops did nothing about it. I guess Philly fans are hated unilaterally.

Well, the Caps had just put the Sens out of the playoffs and we were walking back to Fado for a few beers, (I was stone cold sober at this point btw). The game was a sellout so the street was packed with people leaving the MCI when this moron started running around waving a LeClaire Flyers jersey over his head screaming something about Caps Suck or whatever. He was being really annoying and everyone was jeering him but nobody had the balls to actually address him directly. I told him he was at the wrong game and called him something like a "dumb fuck" or words to that effect. He said something back to me and I laughed thinking it was just a bit of banter, but I must have misunderstood because me laughing pissed him off so he took a couple of steps towards me in a threatening manner so I kicked his arse. A couple of DC motorcycle cops saw it all but just stood there chatting to each other. I don't think he was hurt too bad because he got back up fairly quickly and used his Flyers jersey to wipe the blood off his face, so no harm done really.

Then we went for our beers in Fado...
