Who knows Philly well?
« on: August 27, 2007, 10:14:00 pm »
Particularly the area around Tower Theatre...

I need a hotel in the area (preferably a short walk/taxi ride from the venue). Anyone know a decent cheap area to stay? I've only been to Philly once in my life, so I'm not at all familiar with anywhere in the city so I don't want to turn up in a really sketchy area because sketchy areas and Pumpkins fans mix poorly.

Hmmm, I don't recall seeing any hotels nearby. Some people consider the area sketchy, some people don't...

go to wikepedia and look up the tower. it will give you a website where they show you what it looks like and location. also go to tripadvisor and look up the comfort inn(i believe) in the city. It should be like $120/night. You have to take the train from downtown to the tower I think.

There's nothing near the the tower, you can stay at a bunch of different places near the Market-Frankford Line and just take the the train to 69th Street where you walk a block to the venue.

Look for something around the Huntingdon station.  It's way nice up there in N. Philly.

I would've said something between 15th & 2nd as you'd never be more than a few blocks from a station, there are plenty of 3/4 star  places you can  get on hotwire or priceline in the $100 or less range, and most importantly you'd be in areas with bars & clubs for post show partying unless of course you're traveling with your girlfriend, not into nightlife,  or something else, and you're on lock down then do what he said.

True, true, but I said "...and you're on lock down," which is not saying there's an absolute causal relationship, but only if both apply.

I don't know if this is of help to you, but three or so years ago, there was a big "philly's more fun when you sleep over" campaign. i believe bargains can be found on gophila.com
