Sasquatch Festival roll call
« on: May 23, 2007, 06:42:00 pm »
Anyone else going to this?  I'm looking forward to going to the Gorge for the first time.  It'll be interesting to see how it compares to last year's Coachella experience.

Just found out that M.I.A. canceled though.  The Saturday lineup looks fabulous still, including the Hold Steady, Neko Case, the Long Winters, Arcade Fire, and Bjork.  Beastie Boys, Interpol, Spoon, and Polyphonic Spree on Sunday ain't too shabby either.

Sadly,  I am not attending this year.
I have been to several shows at the Gorge.
It is my all time favorite place to see bands.

 Please report when you return.

I wish I had the money to go to this (sadly, with my first home purchase, there won't be any of this for a very long time).  I drove past the Gorge last year and it looked AWESOME.

Sorry I didn't see this post sooner. We're boarding a flight in about a two hours. This is our 2nd Sasquatch and we are geeked about it.

For those who went, how did Bad Brains do?  Did HR just stand there and just kind of go thru the motions?  Or did he really get into the show and act like he was having a good time?

The advantage of the Sasquatch Festival is the number of bands playing PDX before or after.

I didn't go to the festival, but did catch Spoon at the Doug Fir on Friday night. They were great! (They played Saturday night, but I didn't go.) Bad Brains also played two shows over the weekend in Portland at a tiny club. Didn't go, though. I'm too precious for the punk-rock shows.  ;)

The Hold Steady and Manu Chao are both in town for shows tonight (separately), but I'll be at the Marianne Faithfull show.

The Portland Mercury did offer these lovely popsicle puppet cut-outs:

All in all, it was a great weekend. Sunday's mainstage was delayed for a couple of hours due to high winds but the organizers shuffled a few of the side stages and none of the bands got cut. The highlights were The Arcade Fire (predictably), a rejuvenated Beastie Boys (who seem to have set the wayback machine to 1992 -- and I mean that in a good way), The Hold Steady (didn't know how a "bar band" would play on a massive stage but they pulled it off), Neko Case, and Bjork (the maddening wait for her to take the stage did dampen my enthusiasm a bit).

Bad Brains were solid but HR is showing his age and didn't rock out like the rest of the band. He did, however, seem to be enjoying himself and they sounded great.

Jessie Sykes was a disappointment but I'm guessing a big festival might not be the best place to see her.

I haven't made it to all the festivals but so far, it's still my favorite to attend. The setting alone makes it worth the journey. $11 for a 24 oz PBR, however, is just sad.
