I did not realize that the Beta Band was Scottish.  I'm delighted to know that now!  I think that band is wonderful.

Scurvy.  They went on tour and didn't eat enough limes.

BTW -- I am fully aware the Scottish aren't called limeys.

Clarification........Mike Scott is indeed Scottish (poor sod,) the original members of the band are from Scotland, Ireland and England...I think if they had to pick a nationality for the band they would probably say Irish.

How the fuck did wet wet wet ever make it on a list of "best of" in any category??? Well, other that "the best fun you would have kicking them in the nuts" that is.

What about "Orange Juice"...weren't they FRISPS?

Hell, yes.  Or at least Gerry Rafferty-plus-whoever.  That would be a major oversight on an "of all time" list.  Just on the basis of popularity, "City to City" probably sold a major fraction of the collective outputs of the entire 50 named.  More importantly, "Baker Street" has to make the short list of most haunting pop songs of all time (witness Dave Grohl's worshipful, not to say slavishly faithful cover) and some enterprising minstrel could probably make a serious career out of covering Rafferty tunes that his succession of feckless record companies managed to bury.
