I've been wondering the same thing for the longest time. This should be one of the easiest elections in US history for the Dems and half the country still supports this mental midget of a president. The guy is clearly flushing the country down the shitter domestically and has alienated almost all of our allies around the world but he still has this much support. What the fuck????????????????

A drowning man (Republican?) will hold on to anything to keep his head above water, even the worst life ring in the history of the U.S.

and that's actually what the polling shows: this is more of a culture war than an election.

for Bush are conservative (duh), church-going, not-college-educated, rural folks.

for Kerry are urban, educated, non-religious folks.

so... when idiots vote, you get...?
damn the evangelical voter turnout machine.

What church does ggw go?

I may have my differences with him, but he seems pretty educated to me. Same goes for Bede.

And I'm religious.  But, I also define "respect for life" to go beyond the womb to life on earth as well.  Luckily fewer Catholics than is often assumed vote on that one issue.  Many (was most) tend to vote Democratic due to the blue collar/immigrant associations from the early to mid 20th century.

Polls define "church-going" as once a week or more.  And of that crowd, over 70% is bushie.

From the W. Post:

The 9:30 club (815 V St. NW; 202-393-0930) and WHFS (99.1 FM) are hosting a big Rock the Vote fundraiser with hip-hop hosts the Poem-Cees fronting as election results roll on the big screen and a very special DJ set from Bob Mould. VIP tickets ($25) get you real chairs, but the rest of it, including drink specials and major celeb sightings, is only $12.

At the Black Cat (1811 14th St. NW; 202-667-7960), videographer-mixmaster Robin Bell and DJ Spooky will be reframing the political debate right before your eyes, instantaneously deconstructing and remixing election returns from the various TV networks (plus a little canned footage "for context") while providing a move-and-groove soundtrack to encourage a civil exchange of ideas ($12).

Velvet Lounge (915 U St. NW; 202-462-3213) is bringing in punkster-satirists the Political Blockheads to rock while the numbers roll; admission is $6, but bring your own (preferably expendable) television between 8 and 9 and get in free. No prize for screen size.

Or for $17 ($20 day of show), you can see an actual live band at Jammin Java. One of the best, BR549. Hopefully, they won't have any tv's on.

They don't have a TV in the venue. Unless they decide to put one in on that day. Actually, I hear through the grapevine, they are looking forward to this show and hoping people can attend.
