2. Why would I want to sit at a rock concert? Simple. Between opening act and end of show, I'm likely to be there three or more hours. While I find it relatively easy to RUN for 3+ hours, it's sheer torture on my legs and back to stand in a very small confined area for 3+ hours. My legs end up cramping and I suffer through the show.
3. If I Metro, it's a 10+ min drive to Metro, then another 45-60 mins on Metro, depending on how quickly I can make the transfers. Alternatively, I can drive to the Club in 35 minutes. Why Metro? It takes longer, and is more expensive. Alternatively, I can drive 20 mins to Jammin Java and park. I realize that this advantage may not be one to everybody.
4. I don't fear for my life walking to the 9:30 Club, but both my wife and I have been harassed in that neighborhood, which had not been the case in the Vienna strip mall.
5. I never understand it when people claim that the 9:30 Club is "intimate". I guess it's just the nature of the beast. Aside from festivals, the 9:30 Club is the largest venue I've seen a show at in the last 6-7 yrs.
6. I generally don't eat at shows, but having a better selection is an advantage, in case I am hungry.
7. I said on average, the ticket price of a 9:30 show is quite a bit higher than the ticket price of a Jammin Java show. I'll stand by that statement.
I will continue going to shows at both venues. My point was merely that with all things equal (meaning if one band I like was playing at 9:30, and another band I liked was playing at JJ), JJ would be the superior venue, for me.

I'll take Jammin Java over 9:30 Club any day.
1. Nonnsmoking
2. Seating
3. Much easier parking
4. Safer neighborhood
5. Smaller venue, easier to see
6. Bigger and better food selection
7. On average, cheaper tickets
1. True. Got nothing there.
2. Why would you want to sit at a rock concert? I went down there Friday to see Washington Social Club and was totally weirded out by the seats.
3. Metro.
4. I honestly don't fear for my life in the two block walk from the Metro to 9:30.
5. That's just the nature of the venue and the bands that come there. You could never see the Pogues or Belle & Sebastian at Jammin' Java. You have to sacrifice intimacy for practicality. And 9:30 is still pretty damn intimate for a rock club. Everywhere has a decent view, which is more than I can say for other venues I've been to.
6. I don't go to concerts to eat.
7. These tickets, even with service charges, cost less than 20 dollars. 9:30 charges fair prices, for the most part. Going to this concert, with Metro fare and a seventeen dollar ticket will cost me less than going to Jammin Java last weekend did, a ten dollar ticket, plus metro, plus a cab. WSC put on a great show, but I can see them anytime. I see them probably once a month. I think I can deal with going to the vast expanse that is 9:30 to see a band that won't be here for awhile. [/b]
