Top 10 Fashion Suggestions for Nerds

10. Always wear a belt
Pants have belt-loops for a reason. Use them. You can't go wrong with black or brown, but stay away from large, fancy buckles...

 9. White socks are only worn during athletic activities
Gleaming, bright-white socks, worn beneath jet-black dress shoes. Even we have to admit that's pretty ugly. If your socks come anywhere above your lower ankles, ditch the white...

 8. Make sure nails are trimmed and clean
Who knew - women pay attention to a guy's finger nails...

 7. No facial hair
Long story short, to be on the safe side, ditch the facial hair. Yes, some men can pull it off, you probably aren't one of them...

 6. Pants - no pleats or tapered legs
You're not a rock star, so no tapered or tight-legged jeans...

 5. If it has a hole, tear or discoloration throw it out
It doesn't matter how tiny the hole is - get rid of worn out clothing immediately! The ONE exception is jeans. This also applies to shoes.

 4. Running shoes are for the gym ONLY
Simple rule: No running, no running shoes. Period. Yes, I'm talking about Nike, Reebok, or New Balance. Gone.

 3. Do NOT wear free or company t-shirts
Free t-shirts are great, but don't wear them anywhere you actually hope to talk to girls...

 2. Do NOT tuck in your shirt (unless at a formal event or when layering)
You may think tucking in your shirt looks 'neater', but women strongly disagree. ESPECIALLY when it comes to tucked in t-shirts. <shudder> There are a few exceptions...

 1. Never wear socks with sandals
There are few things women hate more than this footwear choice. Ask any woman you can find - to them, wearing socks with sandals is an extremely heinous act...

That list is partially correct and severely misguided.

 10. Belts can look dorky, too.

 7. Scruff is really hot...

 6. This I would like to stress.  Tight leg jeans are hot too.  Nicely tailored pants are better than something baggy or ill-fitting.  Pants should fit (they don't have to hug you if you don't want them to, but I like when they do) and they shouldn't hide you or make you look bigger.  Please show off your pretty body.  And pleats are just wrong.

 5. This is just dumb.  Please wear worn chucks with lots of holes in them.  Please.  Holes and discoloration are clearly inappropriate on some sorts of garments (i.e. blazers, suits, ties, etc) but as far as tee shirts and sneaks and jeans go, they give your clothing character.  There is nothing wrong with this.  In fact, it is good.

 4. The right pair of sneakers will look good with everything.  You'll know.

 1. Also avoid high socks with shorts, unless they are tube socks worn for a deliberate 70s homage or something of the sort...
