Johnny Marr, anyone go?

How was it? Everyone whimped out on me.....
 
 I was wondering how it was? Did he play any different songs or slag of Morrissey?

thumbs up to the show. even better than in january. was about 1 hour and 15 minutes on stage. set list was nearly the same as last time. paloalto was okay, missed most of their set. was a bit odd that it wasn't sold out or nearly sold out whereas in january, in the cold, during the week, it sold out 2 weeks prior to the gig.

Perhaps that fact is a comment on the quality of the album/live show? I really woudn't know, but I haven't read much good things said about his solo stuff other than that written on this board.

January didnt sell out either.... Although it was reasonably full it was not packed.
 
 If you come back after less than six months with no new material then I guess a lot of people will not see the need to go.... Somewhat like seeing the same film twice only a few months apart?

 but yeah, it was hardly different that january, albeit a couple of songs. the sound was tighter and johnny marr was a bit more relaxed on stage.
 
 in contrast, for example, from neil finn, whose set last july and set this past january were very different.

I can answer for about four people who went to the winter show but didn't go this time.  Besides his coming back so soon, we just weren't all that dazzled by his stuff or his show last time through.  While it was incredibly cool to see the famous and magnicent Marr, his stuff had Oasis written all over it.  Not worth a second show, so soon, for quite a hefty sum.

The sound may be similar to Oasis, but the musicians are ten times better in the Healers than Oasis. They are what Oasis would like to be. The Oasis sound is a pretty good energetic sound for a live show anyway, so why is that so bad?
 
 Like I said before, you lot (DC concert goers) will sell out Pete Yawn and Jack-off Johnson, and some of you would go see Andrew WK every fucking night... but you won't make the effort to see one of the greatest guitar players of all time. Shame on you for not showing up.

i'm with bags on this one... had the show been less than $20 with a support act worth seeing i might have gone.  i tend to like a little value for my buck.  and besides where were you for the delgados?  there were even less fans there.  and for the record i only saw pete yorn for one and half songs and only because i was there to see sloan.

Kosmo, you are the bomb!  Ditto on Yorn.  We went to see Sloan, and *appeared* to be the only folks there who knew any of their songs (and we proudly knew every song).  When Yorn came on and had that insane rock star backlighting effect going on, it was more than I could stand.  Though I admit to staying for about three songs.  Hell, I had paid for it.
 
 And I did see Marr the first time.  As I said, the man's a legend, but this album is just not floating my boat enough to make the effort to see him again in a month that was chock full of cool shows.

 A FEW YEARS AGO, MY WIFE AND I WENT TO SEE BARENAKED LADIES.....BECAUSE THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH WERE THE SUPPORT BAND. WE STAYED FOR BNL AND WAS SOMEWHAT ENTERTAINED I SUPPOSE, BUT MORE IN A COMEDIC WAY THAN MUSICAL

 MY COMMENTS WERE MORE DIRECTED TOWARDS THE BOARD MEMBERS WHO GO TO SHOWS ALMOST NIGHTLY AND DRIVE TO PHILLY TO SEE SOME SHITE LIKE WHITE STRIPES, VINES, HIVES AND ALL THAT GARBAGE BUT COULDN'T BE ARSED GOING TO JOHNNY. THAT'S AS MUCH AN INSULT AS REPLACING THE MONA LISA WITH A VELVET PICTURE OF ELVIS.

Let me tell you, Mankie, the lighting at the Pete Yorn show was *pure* comedy.  It was so over the top "rock star" shit.  This bright white backlight, leaving Yorn just a brooding silhouette with his shaggy hair and guitar slung across his chest.  Oh man oh man.
 
 Didn't mean any offense on Marr.  I hear what you're saying.  That's what I love about the boards -- finding the new stuff that isn't all about being hyped in Q Magazine.

Absolutely no offense taken. If you don't like his new stuff, that's fine...at least you gave it a listen, and went to check him out first time around.
