I can safely say that some 80's music just sucked outright...especially some of the pop music.  Also, I can honestly say I'm not as fond of the Cure as I was when I was about 12.  Echo and the Bunnymen, New Order, Depeche Mode...all those bands have (to me) withstood the test of time.  I still love the first Book of Love record.  But once I began to discover stuff like Husker Du and the Minutemen (when I was in high school), a lot of that other stuff fell by the wayside a bit.  That being said, I still enjoy putting on "Big Lizard in My Backyard" by the Dead Milkmen. True, music triggers a lot of memories...but certain things that I missed the first or even the second time around still sound great to me.  I have no memory associations with "Raw Power" by the Stooges, and yet it sounds better to me than most things being released today, and I only discovered it about 5 years ago.  Truely good music stands the test of time.
