I enjoyed the article.... It was hilarious. I thought the point was that no one can agree on who the first punk bands were? So the debate about liking new punk vs green day mirrored that of say Sex Pistols vs Ramones vs New york dolls vs MC5.
As for original punk members liking new punk? Well Joe Strummer on MTV said he liked new punk bands, like 182. But I wasnt convinced, I just got the impression he was just trying to be nice and tell the interviewer what he wanted to hear. Listening to his last two albums it seems Joe was more interested in world music than 182.
Who else has come out in support of the new punk bands? And is that beacause they are old and past it? Or do they do it so they can go, "well if you like new punk, you will like old punk, check out our backcatalogue"?
