Will the screaming guy please leave the room
« on: February 01, 2005, 12:12:00 pm »
On the way to work I was listening to a freebie sampler from Eqaul Vision Records.  Discovered very quickly that I could within a couple measures identify any song of the Cookie Monstercore variety, or the umpteenth version of Anger against the Toaster.

The only standout cut on the sampler, was from the Baltimore band Liars Academy due to the fact it was the only straight ahead rocker of the bunch.

So whats the point of the screaming guy in so many of these "punk", emo, or alternative bands these days.  Does he exist solely because he wants to able to use a microphone during a show?  To me screaming guy quickly makes music unlistenable.  Thursday is a prime example of where screaming guy is just down right annoying.  In the end it's probably just to annoy old folgies like me....

Coheed and Cambria deserve special mention because I think the singer just likes to be able to hear himself.  Put a little space in the songs once in awhile, not every moment needs to have vocal.

I agreet with you....I think the "screaming guys" of the past few years have been down right annoying.  I cannot tolerate the singers in bands like Thursday and Ash. I remember at Coachella last year, my friend and I were hanging out in the Heineken tent because it was the only way to not hear the music Thursday was playing.

Personally, I think all that screaming pop rock sounds the same.

On the other hand, maybe it is that I'm getting too old....(especially when I have that Cookie Monster album posted above from when I was little)

Watch yourself. You'll be turning to alt-country before you know it.

You think the guy in Ash is a screamer, I never thought that of them.
