I'll be DJing on Wednesday as part of Beyond, a weekly event featuring downtempo, underground hip-hop, deep house, and more.
 
 All the info:
 
 WHEN: Wednesday, June 27, 2007 - event time 6-11 p.m.
 WHERE: Upstairs (above Skewers), 1633 P Street NW, Washington, DC
      NO COVER! - 18+ to enter; 21+ to drink
 WHAT: the weekly event Beyond (downtempo, underground hip-hop, deep house, and more)
 LINEUP:
      6:30-8:00 - DJ Sweetie Pie - downtempo, trip-hop
      8:00-9:30 - Christine Moritz - downtempo
      9:30-11:00 - Miguel Lush - deep house, nujazz
 DRINK SPECIALS:
      $2: Pabst Blue Ribbon, Blue Moon, Flying Dog, Anchor Steam
      $3: pomegranate martini
      $4: Skyy, Ketel One, Stoli martini
      Drink special prices go up $1 after 9:30 p.m.

hum, very close to my place... might have to hit up whole foods and then check this out.  sweet grooves, decent start and ends times, no cover, and $2 blue moon?!?  i'm in.

 Just curious, are you playing any of the Nu-Jazz out of East Berlin? From the music I've heard, their's seems to be my favorite. Normally, I'm not much of a Jazz fan but I've heard some pretty cool stuff. I like how some of them have found ways of melding some very modern Underground Indie and Experimental sounds within Classic Jazz structures.

Hmm... which artists/labels are you thinking of?
 
 Berlin is the home base of the labels Sonar Kollektiv and Compost, both of which are associated with leading nujazz lights Jazzanova and have a number of other nujazz acts on their rosters.
 
 But I'm not sure which part of Berlin they operate in.  And I guess I hadn't heard anything about a geographical subdivision of Berlin being associated with nujazz in the same way that, say, people refer to "west London broken beat" to describe the sound that came out of west London, best exemplified by Bugz in the Attic.
