alright, i guess i should have said it was a good show and left it at that...

the price was a little steep in my opinion...

 recently, I've seen:

 Beulah: $10
the Shins with Arlo and four others: $15
 Robbie Fulks: $13
Bloodshot picnic with 8 artists: $10
my wife went to Death Cab for Cutie: $12

and Shelby's sister Allison Moorer was $15 (I had other commitments)

all of those that i did see were arguable better shows than Shelby, and less costly.

I'm a very large & very butch woman...that's why.    :)  as Rhett was not dissing the butchness he perceived in Shelby, but rather, admiring it...

oh well...sounds like you're kidding anyway...

I was pleasantly surpised that I enjoyed the show, except for, like Rhett said, it was way to cold in there, and the blues jams were not to my taste...

 Shelby is a cutie, though

I agree the price was too high - thus the low turn out at the shows. Bad miscalculation on their part.

Joe Henry is only $15.00. If you know him & like him you'll dig the show. Just guitars and standup bass.

The best deal going though has to be the DBT.
You get nearly 3 hours of music every night for only ~ $12.00. Wish I could make the Thanksgiving eve show.

OK...I don't understand what being large has to do with it....I don't think anyone said anything derogatory about size whether large or small...and Rhett's just calling it as he sees it.  What's so wrong with him saying someone appeared to him to be a little on the butch side?

On the other hand this just doesn't have anything to do with me...I don't even really know who Shelby Lynne is.

Or maybe I'm just missing the point altogether.  :D

DBT is indeed a good deal at $12. Even at the special 9:30 Club price of $15, it's a good deal. I would argue that Slobberbone is a better deal, but that's an old argument.

Is it ok if I accuse Patterson Hood a being butch?

Unfortunately, they're playing when my mom is visiting, and i don't think they'd be her speed. I just hope the Bottle Rockets aren't opening, that would be a double loss.

Joe Henry is just someone I've never been able to get into, though i know everything tells me i should. I have one of his early cd's, and recently picked up another for a buck, but it was only ok. And my wife didn't care much for it.

Patterson - Definitely Butch. Cooley too. Mesh trucker hats are a dead giveaway. Who needs gaydar.   :D

DBT & Bottle Rockets tomorrow night in Cleve. Being billed as a battle of the bands. I don't know the BRs well. Sounds like you really like them. So...I should go?

Don't know how close Pittsburgh is to Cleveland, but that's a wail of a double bill.

The Bottle Rockets first three albums were excellent. Farrar and Tweedy both appeared on the first one (the lead singer, Brian Henneman, was an Uncle Tupelo roadie, and I think was part of Wilco on their first tour and maybe played on the first record...he's also in a classic country cover band with Farrar's brother) Roscoe Ambel of Steve Earle band (and the Yayhoos) produced the second and third albums. Their fourth waas not so good, nor was their Doug Sahm tribute album. They have always put on great 2.5 hour shows in a blue collar fashion, not unlike DBT. Hopefull their new one is a return to form.
