Mankie - while I'm not that throlled about the Glazers owning Man U I'm with Smackie on this one - I don't think their on field decline has anything to do with 6 months of Glazer family ownership - this steady decline has been going on for 3 years now....I also think Keanes departure was long overdue - he's a spent force physically - I also think its time for a change in manager - Martin O'Neill would be my choice  (assuming he's interested in coaching what with his wifes illness and all that) [/b]
Sorry but I don't see what the big deal is with O'Neill...what has he achieved exactly? He's managed a team that's in a division that really only had one other team, two now with Hearts, and the team he managed would probably be mid-table in the Championship, behind Reading, Sheffield and the like over the course of a full season. Hitzfield would be a good one, and now rumour is Capello at Juve is interested, both have far more impressive cv's than O'Neill.

I'm sure smackie will remember I said Fergie needed to go two seasons ago, so that's no great revelation.

As for the Glazers, they summed up their interest in the team when they didn't bother to show up for the Chelski match, talk about a slap in the face....showing up last night was because they had been there for a 'crisis' meeting after the Keane affair. I was open minded about them at first, but it's simply a matter of money to them, at leat the Irish duo were honest about it.

I couldn't disagree more with you Mank. O'Neill is a great manager who transformed Leicester from a nothing club, getting them promoted to the Premiership, winning the League cup and having them challenge teams with infinitely more resources at the top of the premiership. Needless to say, since his departure Leicester have reverted to their traditional mediocrity.

Then at Celtic he took over a team in turmoil, and in danger of being rendered irrelevant by Rangers streak of 8 in a row, immediately reversed the scales with essentially the same players, won a couple of championhips, and got em to the UEFA cup final (not sure when Reading and Sheffield last played in Europe let alone got to the finals).

He's got a great football brain, and is a good motivator. If he's so 'overrated' why is his name mentioned in connection with evrey single managerial vacancy that comes up?

What happened with Celtic and the title last year?

Your point with Leicester is well taken....but what really 'big' team has he managed, he'd drown at Real Madrid, Barcelona Juventus, AC Milan and even a fallling United....and don't say Celtic because if it weren't for religion they'd be another East Fife. Strachan is doing a job with Celtic and he's hardly a Matt Busby or Brian Clough now is he?

I'm not saying O'Neill is an idiot, I just think he's overrated that's all.

its true that they blew the title last year but honestly I think thats because O'Neill and by extension the team were not focused.....O'Neills wife has cancer and the team knew he would be leaving

so what really 'big' teams did Ferguson manage before Man U?   :p

NONE! But now he has, and so is proven to be up to the task. O'Neill has not and so not proven...that's my whole point.

That one paid off, but let's quit while we're ahead! (Which is a statement also very pertinent for Fergie at the moment)

Rumours run rampant regarding a Celtic move as Roy Keane prepares for the Scottish lifestyle!!
