Anyone else going to see Monarch on Thursday at DC9? Awesome band, very melancholy. But not shoegazy, or at least i don't think so. Anyway, should check it out, very cool band from Pittsburg.

The opening band Camera is also very good.  They're a 60's mod-inspired outfit along the lines of early Who/Kinks with a little early 90's Britpop thrown in.  Very, very catchy.

i'll put a good word in for the openers, camera, as well. i happened upon their website (www.thisiscamera.com) sort of randomly and listened to their mp3s and it's really, really good stuff. one track, "showers to sunshine" is one of the beter songs i've heard this year. too bad they have to play on the same nite as the phobes at the black cat, because a lot of people who go to that show would probably dig camera a whole lot.

Judging by redsock's description of the band, I'm guessing this isn't the same Monarch from Pop Faction, correct?
