Tony Hawk film/demonstration
« on: June 06, 2003, 11:06:00 am »
As part of the Silverdocs Film Festival at the American Film Institute in Siver Spring:

THE MAKING OF TONY HAWK'S BOOM BOOM HUCKJAM
One legendary skateboarder. Twelve of the world's top athletes. Two raging punk rock bands. Six months of planning. Nine days of rehearsal. One jaw, broken in four places. One huge night in Las Vegas. This is THE MAKING OF TONY HAWK'S BOOM BOOM HUCKJAM, a heart-stopping, edge-of-your-seat, out-of-your-head display of daredevil talent. This is a riveting behind-the-scenes look at how the show featuring Tony Hawk and his crew of skateboard wizards, BMX chargers, Motocross maniacs, musicians, models and magicians came together on a $1.2 million customized ramp/track system for a show that had never before been created and that others may only hope to imitate.

In person: The screening will be followed by a free skateboarding demonstration by Tony Hawk as part of the Community Day festivities.

 Sunday 6/22 at 1:00 p.m.

 Tickets: $12.50
($10 for AFI members, seniors and students with valid ID, in person only)

 Purchase tickets from:  Silverdocs/AFI

I just saw this post (sorry, I'm a bit distracted these days).

Of all companies, Microsoft sent me a DVD with a portion of this film on it and it was amazing.  For those of you that went to the JAM here in DC and saw Social D, what I saw was a great documentary of the event.

According to my skateboarding daughter, Tony Hawk is the least popular one amongst the cool boarder kids.....the Jeff Gordon of skateboarders if  you will.

But HEY, what the hell do I know? I thought the jammie thing I took her to at the MCI ctr. was nothing more than watching some retards on the playground, with the added bonus of Social D of course!

Tony Hawk was the bomb when I was skating.  That's unfortunate that the new generation doesn't appreciate all of the amazing things he did for professional skatebaording (and still does as he just did the first 900 in 1999)!  I blame the parents.

Im 31 years old, and i've been skateboarding for 3/4 of my life, when you say tony is the least favorite of the skaters out there these days, it makes me sick. That guy's been pushing the limits for as long as i can remember. He has single handedly brought the sport to a whole nother level. so i say to all the little kiddies out there, "YOU'D BETTER RECOGNIZE".

Mankie can clarify because I didn't get top see it in New York, but if it was only 11 minutes long, I have a DVD copy of it if you missed it.

I did watch the DVD in my hotel because the rain cancelled Tony's Quicksliver Store grandopening in New York on the intrepid.  It was fairly entertaining, but short.

Nevermind.  The promo disc I have is only about 20% of the entire movie.  The parts that I saw were pretty cool though (onlt one Social D song though).  It also had 20 minutes of "Step Into Liquid" the surf flick, which was also super cool.
