Fri. May 5 at Marx Cafe: "We Fought the Big One&quo

Shameless plug? Hmmm...maybe. But hey, this month we've got one of the best 9:30 Club DJs around (some would even say THE BEST!) behind the turntable decks in the form of Mark Williams (aka The Kaiser)!

The Kaiser has spun some of the biggest shows at 9:30, including Kraftwerk, but his real claim to fame are the many dj musical endeavors he has blessed the city with: Taking the Piss, Soundclash, Procedure...this guy knows his stuff.

So if you're a fan of real post-punk, not that watered down stuff being touted by the corporates, join us for an evening of fun n' frenzy over at the Marx Cafe this Friday night.

 More details below...

It's time once again for our monthly celebration of moody & off-kilter post-punk, shoegaze and left-of-center underground independent music! We're talking about stuff from the late 70s, the 80s, the 90s, yes, even some new stuff. We're talking about bands from the U.K. and the states of course, but also Japan, Sweden, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland---hell, we've even been known to play bands from places where Kathy Lee Gifford runs her infamous sweatshops! (No wonder there's so much angst in the music at the Big One!)

Btw, this month marks our first event with the new dj setup. The new owner has moved the booth to the back to give people more room to schmooze by the bar upfront. We've hoping this won't encourage more drunken brawls...

Unfortunately, Brandon (that's DJ Five-Year-Plan) will be in Toronto this weekend but he'll be back with a vengence (i.e. a crapload of new/old records to play) next month. The venerable Mark Williams (DJ Kaiser) will be filling in and I'm stoked to be spinning with him! So join us for an evening of fun, silliness & crazy good times!  :)

Hope to see ya Friday night...

FYI, I should have a few copies of our 2-year-anniversary mix with me tonight. The disc is chock full of classic post-punk goodness and contains a lot of very rare stuff that we converted from vinyl! But I will only have a limited number of them with me so...
