Fri 10/26 - The Tragically Hip with The Joel Plaskett Emergency
Sat 10/27 - The New Pornographers
Sun 10/28 - The Weakerthans with Jim Bryson
It starts a little soft but strengthens dramatically.
The Hip haven't recaptured the glory of the Fully Completely or Day For Night releases but were usually able to put out albums with a few good songs. Too bad that came to a halt with the new album (World Container). But the opener - the Joel Plaskett Emergency - is worth the price of admission alone. He's a great combination of indie originality with straight ahead rock and roll sensabilities.
The New Porns latest effort hasn't grabbed me the way Twin Cinemas and Electric Version did but Neko Case
will be touring with them and that's reason enough to go.
The Weakerthanss finish things off on Sunday with my Ottawa homeboy, Jim Bryson, in tow. The Weaks continue to put out intelligent, well crafted pop and just keep getting better and better live with each tour. This is going to be the best show of the weekend.
Oh, and if you're not in the mood to hang out at the Club, there's always Toronto's Small Sins at the Black Cat on Sunday night. Great electronic-power-pop with ear worm-ish hooks.
So...who's going?
