R.E.M. in Dublin
« on: July 07, 2007, 12:57:00 am »
I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but R.E.M. has been working on some new material with a residency in Dublin.

Presumably, a new album and a tour will be forthcoming....

No one has mentioned this yet because their last album was unlistenable.

It was nice to see all the old R.E.M. stuff at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this weekend though!

3 of the Dublin shows are up on dimeadozen.  I've only heard the first night, but the new stuff sounds great.  Let's hope they don't over-produce the new record to the point that it's unlistenable.

A live CD/DVD compiled from the Dublin shows is due out 10/16 (more info).

 The trailer looks good!

It isn't compiled from the Dublin shows in 2007 where they did the residency featuring new material. It's a show from 2005.

WTF?! I guess I didn't read closely enough. Thanks for the clarification, Julian.

You're welcome. I thought the same thing when I got the REM email until I saw the setlist.

I thought the live stuff sounded pretty good!  It worries me that they say they're taking a break before recording it...hopefully they won't forget how nice the new songs sound before they're overproduced to crap.
