Phil Levitt, Dada.  A band whose prodigious talent, sound, songwriting prowess and (sadly)acclaim are all inversely proportional to those of the meg and jack noise show. [/b]
I never gave it much though actually, but you're right! I think Phil's drumming is over-shadowed by Mike's guitar work which is amazing!

I missed all 3 shows in Oct    :(

Got the setlist from the State Theater show (yes they did "Bob the Drummer!")  It was awesome.  If there were lists of the most underrated bands and performers, each of them would make it, and obviously, the band.

They played that at Recher when I saw them in I think July on a Sunday night. They played for over 2 hours too!  :)

Keith Moon--did anyone really play drums any better? Watch videos him play and it looks like he's totally out of beat, and yet it worked. He did rhythms with one hand that some people can't do with two.

I don't know how to get the above excerpt to appear the way I've seen others.

Anyway, in the video called (I think)"The who: maximum R&B" Moon is singing his "Bell boy" part, keeping the beat with one hand, & trying to keep his headphones from falling off with the other hand. I thought, "Wow. He's still got it together." Still my fave drummer.

So yeah, top drummers from probably the newest, uhhh, meat. Maybe my 5th post. Wooohooo.

Keith Moon. What more to say. Amazing. Distinctive "rolling" sound if that makes any sense to anyone but me.

Phil Collins (yeah, THAT Phil Collins. Quit laughing, ya turds!)

I also really like the guy who drums in The Bloodthirsty Lovers. Complex rhythmsthat you really don't expect. Someone after a gig asked him if he studied jazz. He didn't.

Kevin March, currently with GbV. Always on everytime I've seen them. (Going to Cleveland Sunday for GbV.)

The guy who drummed for Richard Thompson during his tour this year. Visually interesting to watch as well.

Magee, who played drums in a band I was in during the 80's.  :)   Magee had "parts" for christ sakes.

I also like the guy who plays in Rainer Maria. He's a hell of a cymbol crasher, & he's relentless. It really works with that band.

No one's mentioned 'The world's most sampled drummer'
Clyde Stubblefield, 'The Funky Drummer', with James Brown.

Melvin Parker and Jabo Starks were equally as good with JB.

The drummer for Pylon, Curtis Crowe, had an excellent sound. He and Grant Hart would be my faves.

Are you Ikarus? The reason I ask is because of the similar posting times.

George Hurley-From the Minutemen-kept a great rythym section with Watt.
Matt Cameron-His SG era was his best.
Marky Ramone...well I like the Ramones...

Remember at one time Phil Collins was cool.  He played drums on much of Brian Eno's early solo work.

As well as with Brand-X.
