Anyone remember the DC venue Wax Museum (4th & E SW, 1982-84)?  It was a failed tourist trap that was converted into a huge venue with cool sunken ampitheater seating at the end by the stage, and complete with a bunch of the wax figures from the museum

I loved that place!!! Nothing like buying a drink at the bar while Neil Armstrong's real space suit floated above you or being greeted by John Wayne on your way in the door. In fact, I still have my VIP membership card that the bartender gave me.    Too bad it's good for nothing anymore.

After the place closed, the figures were auctioned and I think I remember discovering that John Wayne one in some restaurant as a decoration (the joint behind Hechts in Freindship Hts?).  I remember that Orpheus Records on M st in GTown had the Louis Armstrong one

Or the museum of American History so they could be proudly displayed alongside Fonzy's leather jacket!

Yes, but there is a large performing space in the plan, which could be cool.  Actually, my brother-in-law's architecture firm in NY has bid on this project, and it includes multiple performing spaces, both large and small (and outdoor).  It could be something we 9:30 club aficionados use as well.
