Goldfrapp

Did anyone go last night?  I'm suprised that with the number of Massive Attack, Portishead, and St. Etienne fans on the board there was more chatter about this show.

Kosmette has the "Felt Mountain" CD and I hadn't really listened to it very often.   I wish now that I had, because its a good one...  a more sophisticated St. Etienne...  similar to Portishead...  sultry vocals backed by soundtrack sounding music.  Wish I'd gone to the show now...   I'm sure they are  huge in the  UK selling out venues.   But based on presale numbers Ed mentioned last nights show  was pretty sparsley attended.

i wanted to go last night but was held up in a meeting and missed nearly all of brookeville which i wanted to check out too. so when i could finally go, after missing half the show, i lost motivation. bummed though because i was really keen on hearing two artists i had read about and hadn't heard yet.

Really wanted to go but had to make the decision to nix that one with other shows and priorities in my life. I too am very curious as to how the show went.

I missed the opener but those who weren't there missed a good one.  Reminded me of seeing Mono way back in 1997 or 1998...

Excellent show, if a bit short.  I don't know that they played over an hour.  It was kinda thin but the crowd was into it.  Very quiet between songs...

I was there last night and thought it was stunning.  It was certainly not Portishead which was one of my favorites 9:30 shows ever but lots of fun.  Allison, the lead singer, has tons of stage presence, sort of a cross between Nina Hagen, Toni Halliday & Debbie Harry (the younger version!).  Dressed to the nines, very sexually charged (lots of cat-calling straight college boys) and with a jaw-dropping multi-octaved, at times operatic, stunner of a voice.  Came with a great four-piece band complete with strings. Traded off songs from Felt Mountain and the new more dancey, Black Cherry for a hour and 15 minutes.  Would definitely recommend catching them if & when they come back.  I won't feel so bad about possibly missing BMRC tonight having gone to that show last night.

I liked the songs from "Black Cherry" better in the show, but as an album, I think "Felt Mountain" is better, especially on the headphones. A little boring when you hear them live, though.. "Black Chery" is basically a synth-pop album, totally unrelated to Felt Mountain. There are couple decent songs (Crystalline Green, Strict Machine, Train) which they played last night.
I thought Alison Goldfrapp was superb. Who was the bearded guy in the funny black outfit? Will Gregory?

I had this show on my list, but with Dressy Bessy the night before, BRMC tonight (which I've bagged due to Isabel -- I'm lame, I know), I had to get ready for a trip last night.  Maybe next time...
