Is that for real?  What's the purpose of burning them on a cd and sending to RIAA....they'll still be on your computer, no?

Its a fantastic idea, one of Dupeks best posts. Spam the RIA into submission. Take up all their bandwidth and man hours opening packages and emails.

"Want to find out more?
Copyright - It's right not to copy!
Your favorite artists speak out about piracy
 Music, Fairness & Patriotism
 The $250,000 Track - Jamal's expensive lesson"

I love how they're all nice at the beginning explaining everything slowly and carefully in dumbed-down language, and then they end with a threat.

Golly gee whiz, this makes me want to stop download MP3s! I wouldn't want to deprive Madonna of her seventh house in Hawaii!

Wishful thinking markie.  I imagine the cd's would end up in the trash.  More importantly, you just gave them evidence that you downloaded giving them an opportunity to sue.

I find it hilarious that anyone can possibly take the side of pro-file sharing. You can talk "free advertising" and any other justification you want, but it's illegal and immoral, and some day, people are going to have to realize that.

Then again, I was 100% in favor of suing the hell out of that 12 year old girl...

A big problem is that since the radio stations have reduced their play lists there have been few ways to try out new music.  You can't hear it on MTV (which doesn't play music for some reason) or the radio, and after getting burned by a few overly hyped Spin or Rolling Stone reviews, what are you supposed to do?  Dump $16 on something that might not be what you want or try it out first.  If the latter you don't have many legal options unless you go to some of the better music stores with CD players for customers to use.  Otherwise Downloading or buying used and cheap are your options.

The industry is blaming MP3s when it has done two things, priced the music past the point where people will risk it (and I have seen neglible changes in pricing since that suit against the industry), and put out shoddy product that has caused more people to download and burn.  When I was a kid I made tapes of albums, and usually ended up buying them if they were any good.

Until I see statistics showing how often these illegal copies are listened to, I downplay them.

By the way, I don't do MP-3s, they just sound bad to me.

I totally agree...the music industry has been putting out overpriced shit for way too long.  File sharing is great for many struggling bands.  It gives them a means to get their stuff out...which in turn gets people to the shows which is $$ in their pockets.  With many indie labels suffering from shoddy distribution, many bands are finally being heard by a wide audience and able to actually support themselves by touring.  I know that file sharing is taking $$ out of some pockets, but i really fail to see how it is that different from making tapes the way we used to.  Sure it's on a larger scale, but all media in the 21st century has been accelerated ten fold.  The music industry is just suffering more than most because, as I said before, it's been serving up an overpriced shitty product for too long and people are sick of lining the pockets of people like David Geffen and Aerosmith and Metallica etc.

I for one don't do much illegal downloading, and what I've done has probably contributed to the fact that these days I buy more music than I have in years.  I actually do buy things from the itunes store, but mostly because it's higher quality and easier than tracking down all the MP3's from a particular album, not because I feel like Iâ??m being immoral or whatever when I use Kazaa.

I know that one major label recently announced that they were significantly lowering prices to compete with file swapping, but the arrogant pricks still absolutely deny that the overpriced product they've been dishing out has anything to do with the proliferation of file sharing.
