Zombies Doc
May 16 - 22
AFI

Released nearly 60 years after they met as teenagers, HUNG UP ON A DREAM explores the journey of the iconic British rock band The Zombies. The documentary offers an intimate look at the band's formation, rise to fame, challenges and eventual resurgence, and provides fans and newcomers alike with a comprehensive view of their musical odyssey. HUNG UP ON A DREAM also features interviews with current and former band members Rod Argent, Colin Blunstone, Steve Rodford, Tom Toomey, Søren Koch, Hugh Grundy, Paul Atkinson and Chris White, as well as with other musical luminaries such as Hayley Williams, Finneas, Paul Weller, Harry Styles, Dave Grohl, HAIM and Portugal. The Man.
I just saw "coming soon" cards for this last night at AFI. Looks really good, but I don't think I can make it work Friday before I leave town.

Man, I wish Richmond had something like AFI showing repertory works on such a large screen. A Woman Is A Woman (a film I've never even been able to see in HD, just a shitty DVD released in US) was absolutely incredible last night. What a gorgeous film when showed properly. La Cocina good too. If I lived up here I'd do that $2500/year-gets-you-2-tickets-to-every-show-free level donation.

Really only worth it if you see more than 100 movies a year in a theater

jules is a cinephile and i have no doubt that he would see 100+ quality movies a year

what i have issue with is his definition of "free"

Some people believe in supporting the arts…

Yeah. I give more than $2500/year to the Richmond Symphony just to have access to a donor lounge where I can pay $14 for a vodka soda. If I lived in DC, the value I would get out of a $2500/year pass to an arthouse theatre would be astronomical. I'm seeing 7 films at night while in town this week alone.

That’s fair and I support that
Personally I wish I did more, but kids, mortgage and other stuff  areclearly my actual priority
Aspirationally I support the arts

Wasn’t quite presented like that

Although I suspect Julian is hoping for his name on some wall near the merch table with a bunch of other dead rich people as his lasting legacy

It does come with a plaque on the back of a seat in Theatre 1 but I honestly just think I’d come close to recouping at a place showing 12-15 different arthouse films a day. This is not a Julian’s America bit. It’s the number one thing I’m jealous about metro DC having.
