The Cult in Baltimore
« on: November 13, 2007, 09:36:00 pm »
Did anyone go to the show last night?

I thought it was really awesome. Granted I've only seen them once before back in 2001, but regardless, they seriously kicked ass.

I was really happy with the setlist. They played a lot of their best classic material. The new songs were pretty fun too.

Another awesome thing about the show was that Ian Astbury started talking about how much he loves the 9:30 club. (Seth, could you book them for the spring please!?) Pretty funny since the gig was at Ramshead live, but he did say that Baltimore is one cool city.

I saw them around 1989, and they sucked ass. Too bad, because I actually liked their first couple of albums back in the mid to late 80's. Bohnam opened the show. All I can say about them is you know you're in for an overblown opening set when the band is named after the drummer.

Agreed.  Saw them twice actually...maybe 86 or a 87 and another time opening for metallica in 89.  Very forgettable.

First two records are pretty good stuff though.

That metallica show was maybe the loudest I've ever heard.  I saw them at the Richmond Colliseum.

I'm thinking Dino Jr. at the BC in a few weeks may trump it though, in terms of volume.

It was a great show, good set list and all. Although I could have used some really old stuff.

Ian gave the club a shout-out which was somewhat unintelligible

Really old stuff? You mean from their very first album? My friend told me that sometimes they play "Spirit Walker." I was just happy with the 3 or 4 cuts they played from Love and that album is as old as I am (22 for those who are wondering).

I thought Ian's moves were pretty fantastic. He was dancing all over the stage Monday night.

As for the 930 club shoutout, I thought that was cool. Maybe he did it because thatguy was at the gig?  :)
