Are there any free programs that I can use to transfer vinyl to mp3s?

really all you need is any program that can record a sound cards input, i.e. sound recorder comes with  most version of windoze.  the bigger issue is software which can "remove" vinyl noise, which i'm not sure your going to find for free.  plus the ability to record an entire side and break it up into smaller pieces later.

a couple thinks to remember, you'll be recording as a wav file which takes up lots o'space before converting to mp3.  and the better the soundcard the better the transfer.  so if you are serious about transferring lots of vinyl invest in a good soundcard.  like an m-audio.  soundblasters are not "pro" equipment.

 good starting points

 Freeware

 Commercial

Thanks for the help folks.  I'm not really looking for audiophile sound quality yet.  What I'm converting is a collection of old Berlitz German language sides that I snagged from my Dad.

I think the most important thing right now is the source.  What kind of turtable/cartridge/phono stage are you planning on using right now?  I have been thinking about doing this for some old out-of-print jazz lps that I have once I get a laptop.  Also here is a site that you can do searches in that will give you a plethora of information on this.

Perhaps I should reword my previous post.  I'll be using what Kosmo recommended.

So I checked out Vinyl Asylum and dug around for a little bit.  While I'm no audiophile, I can certainly appreciate this as I owned a Fisher Price back in the day!
