Stein's Theatrical
« on: March 14, 2006, 12:16:00 pm »
Was in Clarendon yesterday and noticed that this 70-year-old costume & dance shop had closed. Used to do Halloween shopping there every year, and it was always a fun place to browse around.

The neighborhood around there is changing a lot and it's not surprising they closed, but what bums me out is that there doesn't seem to have been a single newspaper article (and one pithy blog post) about their demise...after 70 years you'd think they deserved a write-up.

Well I can't tell you where I read it but I'm sure I saw some press about this store closing.   It was probably in one of the Arlington community papers though, which nobody really gets or sees.

Ditto though.....I loved that store when I was a kid and remembered going there 30 years ago for my costumes and just digging on all the gory masks.  My kids love the store now.  Shame they won't get to go anymore.  God knows where I'll have to trek off to for Sophie's ballet tights and shoes now.

I work in that building.  They put that sign up right after halloween.  I've been working in Clarendon for just over 2 years and its already amazing how much that area has changed.  There are several small business owners that have been resisting offers for their land only to have apartments and condos spring up all around them (see: Greek Restaurant 1 block down).  Once all those fancy CEO types start moving in their stubbornness might pay off.
