Chemlab, USSA (ex-Ministry/Tomahawk/Jesus Lizard) at Son
« on: December 07, 2007, 01:13:00 pm »
I know a few staphers who are excited for this show!

I'll be joining the remaining dates (all 3 of them...a big FU to my day job) to play with Chemlab!

Chemlab (90s machine rock band toured with NIN, GWAR, and White Zombie to name a few...also the only original remaining member, Jared (singer), was a former employee of the 930 club when it was on F St)

USSA (About a year ago, bassist/programmer/producer Paul Barker ( ex Ministry/Revolting Cocks) and guitarist/composer Duane Denison (The Jesus Lizard/Tomahawk) decided to start a new band. They got together and wrote some material, liked what they heard, and then recruited an unknown but extremely talented young vocalist/multi instrumentalist named Gary Call. They wrote some more material, liked that too, and then recruited drum wizard Johnny Rabb (clinician, author, inventor) to finish the lineup.)

Skeleton Key ("I wanted it to sound like the film score to a freight train flying off the tracks", recalls bassist/singer Erik Sanko of his vision for Skeleton Key, "but a freight train that was filled with flowers." That dichotomy has been the bedrock upon which the signature sound of Skeleton Key was built. Somewhere in the place where the tragic meets the comic, and the sacred meets the profane, Skeleton Key has carved out itâ??s own unmistakable niche. "Itâ??s where safecrackers and ventriloquists come to have a beer."

Now, a mere eight years and two albums later (the Grammy nominated "Fantastic Spikes Through Balloon" on Capitol and "Obtainium" released on Mike Patton's Ipecac label), the blissful chaos shows no sign of flagging. "We're the ambassadors and missionaries of our own delightfully cryptic version of subterranean New York rock. We're like medieval Crusaders, minus the torture part." reports the ever-ebullient Mr. Sanko.)

Cyanotic (Cyanotic heralds the return of aggressive electronic rock, melding elements of classic industrial dance, electro, drum 'n' bass, rhytmic noise, IDM and metal to create a unique sonic assault.

The band enjoys a rapidly growing fan base, thanks to strong support via word of mouth and sharing the stage with the likes of Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Meat Beat Manifesto, Andrew W.K., Stromkern, Dismantled, Bile, Nocturne, Acumen Nation, DJ? Acucrack and many more.

Amongst all the shows, promotion and recording, the group have completed production work and remixes for bands including Pigface, Chemlab, 16 Volt, Acumen Nation, Rabbit Junk, See Colin Slash and many more.

For this tour, it will feature Adrian White, the drummer from Frontline Assembly/Delerium/Dismantled)

Fixed that. Remaining original member left  :)  Full band with live drummer!  For the last two years that Chemlab has done one-off shows, there wasn't a live drummer, but a keyboardist, guitarist (sometimes two when I play) and bassist.

Love Skeleton Key but they really changed their sound when everyone but Sanko left. The work now is much more dark and creepy. Still good though. The lack of the double percussionists is sad.

Downloaded USSA from emusic and digging it so far. It does seem like they took the two styles and just layered them on each other.

Unfortunately USSA has to bail on the remaining tour dates. Duane Denison has herniated his groin muscle and has had to leave the tour. He injured it weeks ago and it has gotten progressively worse and worse.

There was the double percussionists playing, one even busted out a trombone with a flood light on it walking around the audience.  Loved their set!
