Gorillaz Want YOU! For 2005 Comeback

 Gorillaz

Everyoneâ??s favourite slightly-fictional band have a new record on the way, according to a cryptic message on the Gorillaz website. Just to be clear, the band are real, but their members arenâ??t â?? with the animated 2D, Noodle, Russel and Murdoc standing in for behind-the-curtain musicians Damon Albarn, Miho Hatori, Del Tha Funky Homosapien and artist Jamie Hewlett.

According to the message, the awesome foursome have returned to their massive recording enclave Kong Studios to find themselves with a zombie infestation on their hands (pretty sure that bitâ??s fictional), but Noodle has brought some songs for a new album (and that partâ??s real).

Could these "walking undeadâ?¦ mindless automatons whose brains are now Ebola-ridden slush" have something to do with the concept of the new LP? Uh, no clue. The band are using it, however, as the launching point for their own American Idol knock-off, an online internet talent contest to seek out new collaborators for their upcoming comeback. Thatâ??s right, you â?? yes, you â?? can be a Gorilla too.

Complete with retro Search For A Star logo, the competition invites fans to show their stuff, whether itâ??s musical talent on display, drawing, writing, animation, "maverick plumbers, graffiti visionaries, imaginary Jediâ??s or electric chefs." It sounds like they have a pretty open mind. The contest starts on December 15 and each week, the band will select their top 10 submissions, to be displayed on the site. After a run of 23 weeks, a final winner will be selected in June, with the vague promise of some form of Gorillaz artistic interaction. For the full deets, go here.

As for the zombies, to check out a spooky sign of things to come, head on over to the website proper â?? which was relaunched today â?? and watch the animated intro.

The new Gorillaz CD is set for a release in the spring of â??05. The bandâ??s original producer mastermind, Dan The Automator, was busy, so this time around Albarn has teamed up with DJ Danger Mouse, the guy behind The Beatles/Jay-Z combo, The Grey Album.

interesting . . .

i felt the shows they had with the ultra-strange "bent" shaped screen encompassing the front of the stage, and showing the cartoon malaria of hyperactive starpower, to be quite impressive.

thanks for the info on the new album, and the such.
