[Old Man voice]   When I was a boy, the 930 Club had no AC at all, just a big fan in the corner which wasn't always on...  and no circulation... so when it got crowded it was like 150 degrees in there and the place reeked of hair gel, clove cigarettes, stale beer, leather and sweat... and we liked it that way!!!

I thought that smell was the reek of self-righteousness coming of the straight-edge kids...   ;)

Thought they found out one of the beer lines was leaking behind a wall.

yeah, i've also read that beer leaked and that the subfloor was saturated with it (in the WaPo's 30th anniversary multimedia piece, i believe), but i was making reference to:

"At one point, one of the staff members led an odor specialist around the building. He determined that the unique smell to be resultant of a combination of tobacco, sweat, cleaner, and rat urine." (WaPo, 2005).
